The theme of the festival was 'Stage and Screen'. The children decided Disney songs would be great fun to dance to, so with the help of Mr. Needham a Disney mania mix was created and the children started to rehearse. Every one of the children in the class worked their socks off and tried so hard with counting the steps and being in the right place at the right time.
Then it was time for the rehearsal at the Parks Sport Centre in North Shields. When we arrived the children were amazed at how big the stage was and how many seats there were knowing that very night every one of those seats would be filled with adults and parents waiting to watch their dance. Some children were unable to attend the actual event in the evening so it was really lovely that they had a chance to perform their routine after all their hard work on the big stage in front of some spectators.
Then the big event arrived. The children arrived all dressed up in their Disney or animal costumes. They were all very excited but also a little bit nervous, it was a vey big, dark hall filled with lots of people. We watched lots of brilliant schools dancing their own routines and the children were worried theirs wouldn't be good enough.
Our turn finally came... the children took to the stage, the music started and they forgot about all of those nerves, they danced the best they possible could have. They got a really big clap and cheer from the audience when they came on and at the end. They were brilliant. They performed so well, smiling and dancing in time with the music and in character for each of the songs.
Then it was time to go home after a very late night. All the children were happy but tired.
