Year 5 have been working on a gymnastics unit in PE where they have been leaning about counter balancing and counter tension.
A counter balance is created when a weight balances another weight. This allows a child to maintain a balance, even when their centre of gravity moves outside of their body support. With a partner, counter balance can be created with a pushing motion. To create counter tension and counter balances, the children had to make shapes using different body parts and use each other to create counter tension balances. Here are a few of the counter tension balances they created.
