Reading and Phonics Schemes

Reading schemes used in school:

Big Cats Phonics - these books are primarily used in EYFS and KS1 to allow children to read books closely matched to their phonics phase of development
Oxford Reading Tree & Project X - these books continue to match the progression of children's reading ages as assessed by the Salford Reading test. These texts are updated to provide the children with new books and more exciting content.

As always, we encourage the use of other books at home and from the library to develop children's reading for pleasure. This is why we have invested heavily in a more diverse and current collection of books within each classroom through the 100 book reading challenge.

Planning:
Letters and Sounds - we use this programme to deliver high quality phonics sessions in school. Planning is created by our Phonics lead and then disseminated and modelled to other staff delivering sessions. Phonics sessions are delivered daily for at least 20 minutes in EYFS and KS1.
