World Book Day

World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child and young person a book of their own. It’s also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world. To celebrate this fantastic event, Christ Church children came to school dressed in their pyjamas, dressing gowns and slippers. They brought their favourite bedtime stories and some even brought their night time cuddly teddy so share the experience too.

We turned the lights down low, closed the blinds, put on some relaxing music and snuggled up with our classmates and enjoyed some quality reading time.
Our school chair of governors popped in to school (in her pyjamas) to give year 5 a present of books from her house. Year 5 have been reading Stormbreaker. She kindly raided her children's bookshelves and donated all the books relating to our topic to our class. The children were thrilled. It was just like Christmas in our classroom. The books have found the perfect home and will be truly loved here.

At the end of a lovely day of reading, the children shared their books from home with each other.
