World Book Day

Classes

World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and reading. They are a charity that operates in the UK and Ireland. The mission for them and for us is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income. We all want to see more children with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them.

With that in mind, we took part in a range of exciting tasks throughout the whole day. We had such a fun day doing all sorts of reading inspired activities including a reading circle timed read, decorating a reading chair, emoji book titles, quizzes and book cover designs. We even made reading dens, turned off the lights and snuggled inside our dens and read happily all cosy and warm.
