World Book Day

World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

This is the 25th anniversary year of World Book Day so this year we made an extra special effort to come together to appreciate reading.

We had such a fun day doing all sorts of reading inspired activities.

We watched the award-winning teacher and star of Sky Kids Wonder Raps MC Grammar's (Jacob Mitchell) performance of his  World Book Day song Reading Is Amazing, and decided to try and make some book inspired raps of our own. Check out some of our efforts below.
We took part and enjoyed a curriculum linked live interactive programme to support reading for pleasure, in partnership with BBC Teach. Illustrator Dapo Adeola created artwork and shared his tips with us on illustratio. Excitingly,  award-winning author Frank Cottrell-Boyce also answered your questions live in the studio. We watched a favourite book advert come to life and designed one for our own favourite books in class. We also learned what makes a great story and unpicked the structure of our own favourite tales.
We then turned off all the lights, pulled down the blinds, made reading dens and lit the ceiling with galaxies and read our favourite books under the stars.
